Why We Left the Big Telehealth Platforms
We’ve seen what the large online veterinary platforms are doing behind the scenes—
and we refuse to participate in a system that quietly undervalues the doctors
who care for your pets.
For a while, we provided telemedicine through a major third-party app. At first,
it was simple: veterinarians set their fee, and the platform added a small service
charge. Over time, the platform changed the rules, the pricing, and finally the
entire financial model. None of those changes benefited the veterinarian or the pet owner.
What Really Happened
Vets set their price. Then the platform added a hidden markup.
We charged a fair rate for a 30 minute professional appointment.
The platform added its own fee on top—uncontrolled by us, invisible to you.
That markup kept growing.
Pet owners paid more, but veterinarians didn’t. The platform simply took more.
Then they changed the system entirely.
They shifted to deals and bundles. They charged pet owners far less… and kept far more.
Veterinarians suddenly made about $40 for a visit requiring 30–60 minutes of real
medical work.
The math exposes the truth.
A licensed veterinarian—a doctor who went to school for nearly a decade—was suddenly
being valued at less than a handyman, plumber, mechanic, or general contractor.
One of us who designed this telemed clinic is a contractor. He makes $100 for a standard
service call whether he’s there 15 minutes or an hour. Yet the doctor with a doctorate,
a license, malpractice liability, and responsibility for the life of your pet was being
valued at $40 by the platform.
We will not normalize that.
Our Stand: Transparent Pricing & Respect for the Profession
We charge $75 per telemedicine visit + $20 processing to cover overhead because:
It reflects the skill, education, and responsibility of a licensed veterinarian.
It supports a 30 minute, unrushed appointment.
It allows for follow-up guidance without nickel-and-diming.
It ensures sustainability so your pet receives high-quality medical judgment—
not rushed, high-throughput corporate medicine.
There are no hidden fees and no platform surcharges.
What you pay is exactly what your veterinarian earns.
If we ever bring on additional providers, their fees will be openly visible too.
No opacity. No corporate games. No middlemen siphoning value.
Why This Matters for Your Pet
When veterinarians are compensated fairly:
They take time to give real answers.
They’re not pressured to rush in 8–10 minutes.
They remain mentally sharp instead of burning out.
They can practice the kind of medicine your pet deserves.
Corporate platforms want to race to the bottom.
We’re drawing a line and protecting the profession—and protecting your pet’s
quality of care at the same time.
